"1,000 Peace Cranes:  A Project of Remembrance, Vision and Action"

June 11-August 8

Studio 51 Gallery
Closing Reception: Thursday, August 5, 6-8PM

Nearly sixty years have passed since the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. On August 6, 2009, Pax Christi-Fond du Lac launched a local grass-roots effort to build awareness and take action to reduce the risk of nuclear attack and increase global security, on the belief that it is essential that awareness be built of the growing threat posed by the world's nuclear arsenal, and to have a vision for a future that empowers us to take action in reducing that threat.
One thousand origami cranes have become an international symbol of world peace through the story of Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese girl who contracted leukemia as a result of radiation from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
With The 1,000 Peace Cranes project, Pax Christi has been able to provide the community an opportunity to create their own peace cranes, learn about the threat of nuclear weapons and how to take action, through a number of workshops over the past year. The result of those efforts is on display in Windhover Center's Studio 51 Gallery with the exhibit 1,000 Peace Cranes: A Project of Remembrance, Vision and Action, which includes a display of the origami crane mobiles made throughout the year.

In society we have very few occasions to dress-up for anymore and sophistication and glamour have fallen by the wayside. Though lost, it has not been forgotten. With this collection of inkjet transfers styled after the 1920s-1950s, it is an exhibit that celebrates a time when society had glamour and elegance; when dressing up was a virtue.
