The Windhover Center for the Arts has announced a multi-million dollar expansion that will transform its facility into a major regional arts destination. This dynamic development in downtown Fond du Lac will be the catalyst for new business and recreation opportunities, and provide unparalleled access to arts and entertainment.
This expansion is made possible through the support of the Sadoff Family Foundation.
“Thanks to the Sadoff Family Foundation, their generosity allows our organization to realize its vision for a vibrant, healthy Fond du Lac as well as be the cornerstone of the arts and entertainment district,” said Kevin Miller, Executive Director of the Windhover Center for the Arts.
Windhover Center will use C.D. Smith as general contractor with Justin Smith as project manager, and Tom Meiklejohn as architect. The expansion calls for nearly doubling its square-footage from the current footprint of 19,440 square feet to a proposed 37,200 square feet. In order to facilitate the expansion, the Windhover Center purchased the adjoining property to the west, 45 Sheboygan Street.
The facility expansion will allow for outdoor live entertainment, increased accessibility to the arts, expanded classrooms, a dynamic new art gallery featuring local and national exhibits, state-of-the-art facility for corporate events, audio-visual upgrades, premier wedding destination, improved guest amenities, storage and office space.
The proposed timeline for project completion is Fall 2013. The Windhover Center will remain open during construction as many days as possible. Events, concerts, classes, films, and rentals will continue to be offered through the construction period. There will be days the Arts Center will be unavailable to the public.
“An exciting new asset for Fond du Lac will emerge from this project and the economic stability of our arts organization will be ensured,” said Jim Thomas, retired president and CEO of Society Insurance and current president of the board for the Windhover Center.
